Since fire needs oxygen to burn, one way to make charcoal start faster is to increase the air flow. You can use a hair dryer or other device that blows air to fan the flames. For optimum results, give your grill enough time to preheat, generally around 20 to 30 minutes for the briquettes to be ready. Once they turn to ash, they will continue to put out heat for a while.
