What does steering deadzone mean

Probably going to sound like a complete noob, so go easy man! But what exactly is deadzone? I'm trying to tweak the settings. I'm on PS4 using a controller if this helps. Much appreciated guys! Also, feel free to share any tips, and settings setup for me and others to try out. The dead zone is an area in the middle where the wheel is considered to be not turning at all.
